Im terrible at posting all of my weddings here. I do it pretty sporadically. Most of the time I’d rather just share the whole dang gallery, but that’s not instagram. Here, I have to keep it short and sweet. Not my forte people, not at all. It feels impossible to boil down a full gallery down to a handful of images… Kinda like packing light for a trip you need 3 different outfits a day for a week. Impossible right? Well I think I pulled it off today with Dori & Paschall’s winter wedding @74_wythe with @rachelbeharevents and I don’t think I’ve ever shot so much pink!

When I approach a family shoot my ideal situation

When I approach a family shoot my ideal situation is shooting as documentary as possible. I give some direction but hanging out with the fam, seeing them in their element, and capturing their interactions is always the goal.

After shooting their wedding some years back, this is my second family shoot with James, Christine, and sweet little Parker.

We started at their home then took a short walk. Life changes, neighborhoods change (especially in NYC), and of course, kids grow up so there’s something so important to me about capturing a family just as they are. Those are the golden moments will be treasured most as the years pass.

When you get that one roll of point and shoot film

When you get that one roll of point and shoot film back— pure nostalgia.

Mirrorless digital cameras are near perfection. They nail focus almost every time, they can shoot in near darkness, you can see your exposure before you click your shutter, the list goes on. There’s very little opportunity for happy accidents or for letting the chemistry take on a life of its own. Part of me struggles with letting go of the perfection I’ve worked for years to hone (knowing my exposure, perfect lighting, exact framing, straight lines…) but the other part welcomes a new appreciation for the imperfections of film and using non-professional cameras as part of my toolkit. I always shoot with digital as my primary camera but when the client adds in film, I delight in the little something extra it brings. I used three film cameras on this shoot. These shots are from just one roll from one of my point-and-shoot cameras.

It’s that time of year when I start walking arou

It’s that time of year when I start walking around my garden to see what is peeking up out of the soil. I can hardly wait to see leaves on the trees and for coffee outside on cool mornings. The holidays are over and the winter is just dragging on. It has me going back to last summer’s weddings. Clicking through the images and getting excited for what is coming this year.

Above are a few frames of a 10 minute escape during cocktail hour with the buttery early evening light in Manhattan. Something I always tell my clients, I can do a lot in very little time when the light is just so. Of course, there’s some great stuff to be had in contrasty afternoon light or on open shade but the buttery summer evening light, when the humidity is high— there’s a special something there. You don’t have to have hour long sessions. Sometimes a 10 minute escape when the light is right, will do just fine.

At home in the east village… also freezing. Sometimes that’s just the reality. These two went into this shoot knowing they be chilly but they powered through. Shooting in February is not for the faint of heart. Can’t wait to see these two again this July 🎉
