Meet Ora, she’s not even two months old and she’s the offspring of two of my favorite clients Kristina and Tony. I think she’s beautiful and I can’t wait to see the little girl she turns into. I’ll admit, this shoot was pretty goofy— nothing too formal but I gotta say, I kinda like it that way. These three are a new family and it’s so cool to see how excited they are to be together. Even the cat, who Tony is a little obsessed with introducing to Ora every chance he gets.

Is it wrong that I want a little girl just like Aven so I can dress her up in cute clothes, take photos of her all the time, and take her on ice cream outings? Don’t even talk to me about childcare and staying home on Friday nights, [fingers in ears - la la la la] or… wait— are there even any other sacrifices that go with having a kid this awesome? [Thinking... no?] Joking aside, Brooke, my good friend and mom behind this little cutie, blows my mind. She’s a badass photographer, (seriously, check out her photo on the cover of PDN this month), and she rocks this mom thing solo-style. To put it simply, she’s an inspiration and I don’t know what I would do without her <3

In the spirit of stopping and taking a look around, meet Lucas. He’s just one month old. His mom is Ashely and his dad is Tom. I met them back in October of 2010, shot their wedding in 2011, and now— they’re here. Crazy :)

Brooklyn Baby Photographer

For the longest time the only kids I ever photographed were my siblings’ kids. My niece and nephews have basically had a camera shoved in their face since they entered this world. So much so that when I was going to Art Center I made my infant nephew Liam the subject of numerous portrait assignments. One such assignment resulted in a four foot tall portrait of the little guy in the school’s gallery for an entire semester. I guess that means I owe my brother + sister-in-law a big thanks, (or an apology depending on which way you look at it), for allowing me the use of their first born without which, I might have actually had to do some work and cast a real model. To say the least, being the youngest of four has always had it’s perks, (never having to shovel snow or stack firewood, for example), but having a handful of kiddies to photograph is probably the most notable. It’s most certainly prepared me to photograph non-blood-related babies and their googly-eyed parents without too much of a learning curve, or at least I think so, but you be the judge.

Case in point— Mike + Julie + Leo. Mike and Julie are absolutely, positively, mushy-gooshy, over-the-top in love with this kid. But then, how could they not be?! Just look at him! Leo is simply too cute for words. I pretty much had a smile on my face the entire time I edited these photos. It’s just too freakin’ sweet, and yet, it’s just as it should be.

Meet Zoe

I was so excited for this shoot. I rarely shoot babies, or kids, or even families, except my own (nieces, nephews, and family that is). So when Noemi asked if I would shoot little Zoe before she was even born I didn’t hesitate one bit. Noemi and I talked about how we would approach the shoot before hand, and decided that ‘natural’ was what we both wanted. We both were like, “we’re not putting the baby in a bucket or basket!”. Seriously… that’s all well and good for some people, but it’s just not our style and it’s not what we were going for. I wanted to capture Noemi as a new mom and Zoe just as she is. Zoe is just four weeks old and she’s still so tiny, Noemi still has her baby belly, she’s exhausted, and most of all, she’s utterly in awe and in love with her new daughter. That’s the stuff that’s fleeting and that’s worth photographing. All that— and the way Noemi looks at Zoe, it’s… I can’t even describe it, but it’s beautiful and I think you’ll think so too :)

Coincidentally, this time last year I was shooting Noemi + Gyorgy’s wedding, in fact Monday the 14th marks their one year anniversary. Congrats to the new parents and here’s to a very exciting second year of marriage!

Whenever I see my sister I know at least one thing will always be on the agenda, taking a family photo. If I don’t suggest it first, (which I’m sure I almost always do), she won’t forget to ask me. Either way, I love doing it, I love seeing them, I love being the family historian, and I just plain love them! The first image is the shot my sister chose, the other three I think are just plain silly, which sums up these guys perfectly!
