Berlin, Love, and My iPhone

Greetings from Berlin! I’ve been wondering the streets of Berlin for the last two days but I’m sad to say I’ll be leaving tomorrow I will be heading back to London. I’m pretty sure in my last post I said I would be going to Paris but after some thought I decided to go with Berlin instead for my mini three day trip. I want to see Paris someday but something just didn’t sit right. I had a bad feeling and when I have a bad feeling in my gut I’ve learned to listen to that instinct. So after a little Facebook and plenty of advice from friends I jumped a flight to Berlin!

My iPhone has been my savior on this trip so far so I feel it’s only appropirate to do a post of just my pocket photos. I’m sure people think I’m nuts when I’ve got a 5D hanging from my neck and instead I’m standing there clicking away with my iphone. Maybe it’s that my big camera makes noise, maybe that my iPhone is an escape from my “work” maybe it’s that I can edit my photos on the go… maybe it’s all that and more, but there is something so freeing about just using my phone to snap my memories.

The inspiration for this post came when I saw some large pieces of the Berlin wall today. As I looked at the graffiti and gum covered walls I noticed one repeating theme– love. There were layers upon layers of hearts and notes of love. Guy + girl = love… that sort of thing or just hearts. Lots and lots of hearts. It seemed so appropriate that something that formally represented something negative could now be covered with symbols of love. I snapped a series of photos of my favorite signs of love and put them together in a little grid below. The rest of the photos are just a select few of my favorite photos from today and one I took of myself infront of  a portion of the Berlin wall.

This trip has been truly liberating. I’ve never been anywhere this far away from anyone I know, let alone a place where I hardly understand the language. It’s been freeing and comforting all a the same time. Having wifi and my phone handy has allowed me to share this journey with my friends and family and you via this blog and my personal Facebook page. I want to thank all my clients, my friends and my family who have supported me to do my job (which I promise to get back to next week, but yes you can still reach me via email) and make this personal journey possible. I hope you enjoy all the photos and I promise to come back a more calm and better version of me.
