What’s On Your Walls and Why?

These days I feel like nothing gets printed out. I was looking at up at my walls while I sat working at my desk today and realized most the photos on my walls were from polaroids or prints from my days in the darkroom. Why? Because since about 2003 I have printed very little. Myspace, followed by Facebook, made it almost pointless to print photos. All we have to do is make a gallery, and poof! Everyone has the pics!

As a wedding photographer, this is an import issue. Most people don’t order prints, and I’ve done away with 4×6 printed proofs for environmental reasons (unless you love that one pic, I can hardly justify killing a tree for it). I stress getting an album or at least making sure my clients have a hard copy of their images for this very reason.  A DVD is an excellent start as most of you know, hard drive failure is pretty much eminent and there is no perfect way to protect your files unless you either a) store them online or, b) have multiple copies like a DVD and/or an album or web gallery.  That said, the albums I offer, which I should mention are the very same albums my compadres at Photo Pink offer, are certified ‘green’. This mean, they use recycled materials, renewable resources (biodegradable shipping peanuts), and are even made right here in the USA!

Back to my point– prints. When I shoot an engagement portraits or shoot a wedding, I want the images I capture and create to be a part of my client lives forever. I want them to see that print hanging on the wall on their story told in the form an album. Furthermore, I want them to love their pictures so much that they can’t wait to hang them on the wall or to have an album created to tell their story. My goal is to capture their memories and allow my clients to cherish them forever!

So for today, here are some of my favorite pics I have on my walls. Some family, some friends, some I have shot, others were taken by friends. But they are all images that hold meaning for me. The kind of meaning I love creating for others. I love my job! I’m indeed indebted to all those who allow me and support me to do what I love! … yes, that’s tape. She’s was indeed taped to the wall for a while.
